Heart English Schools are based in the city of Mito in the prefecture of Ibaraki (sometimes spelled Ibaragi). Ibaraki is a rural prefecture, bordering Chiba prefecture (the location of Narita Airport), as well as Saitama, Tochigi and Fukushima Prefectures. Its capital and largest city is Mito, with a population of around 250,000 people. Mito is 100 km north of Tokyo and about 1 hour by express train to Ueno Station (in Tokyo). A lot of our client towns are very rural, but many of our instructors are able to reach Tokyo within 1 to 2 hours (affording Tokyo is a different problem). Ibaraki also has a lot of Industrial and International Research centers, creating a small international community outside of the English teaching field.
