The Salaries

Salaries in China are much lower than what you would receive teaching in other Asian countries. If you are interested in paying off student loans and/or sending a lot of money home, China may not be the best country for you to work in. Their currency is not worth much when you trade it against the currency of countries like Canada, Australia, USA, Ireland, Scotland, England or South Africa making it difficult to build an out of country bank account. However, if you are working for the experience and don’t plan on sending a lot of money home you can live VERY comfortably in China on your monthly salary.

Schools in China pay between 3500 and 4500 Yuan per month or 3-6 times the national average! In China, your only expenses will be food, entertainment and the phone bill allowing teachers to live on 1000 and 1500 Yuan a month quite easily. Additionally, with over four million people studying English in China, you should have little difficulty finding part-time teaching work. The hourly rate ranges from 90 and 150 Yuan enabling you to earn between 2000 and 5000 Yuan extra per month.
